Die 3 ersten Ränge in der Region ‚Schweiz‘ wurden belegt durch:
Alcedo - the Flying Avalanche Transceiver
Alcedo is a small UAV with four rotors (quadrotor) equipped with an avalanche transceiver. It searches for avalanche victims autonomously without human engagement. As soon as the avalanche goes down, the people not buried by the avalanche start the search. Alcedo is carried in a shock-proof casing, which can be mounted to any backpack. The four wings can be folded upwards to reduce transportation volume. Thanks to its compact size and small weight, alcedo can be carried by any person.
It uses a GPS module and a magnetic compass for orientation on the avalanche. GPS waypoints are defined on top of the avalanche and alcedo flies to these continuously in search for avalanche transceiver signals. Meanwhile, the rescuer has time to prepare his rescue gear (i.e. shovel, avalanche probe etc.) and make an emergency call. As soon as alcedo has detected an avalanche transceiver signal, it follows the signal. A novel search algorithm combines the drone’s current position from the GPS module with the received signals to predict the location of the victim. As soon as the location has been determined, the drone flies to this position and drops a smoke beacon.
SmartTmon - Smart Traffic Monitoring Using a Novel Displacement Sensor and GNSS/GPRS
SmartTmon is a system to monitor traffic and publish the processed traffic information over a web server. It consists of many small sensor systems containing a novel displacement sensor, a GNSS/GPRS module and a web server calculating traffic statistics and displaying them. The sensor systems are in the shape of a police officer’s aluminum flash light and are installed magnetically at the bottom of the iron drain covers along the roads to be monitored. The system can be used to monitor the occurrence, direction, velocity, lane usage and weight of any vehicle traveling along one of the roads monitored.
Having more than one sensor system installed and knowing its position and absolute time through GPS allows the server to determine the direction and speed of the vehicles even more accurately compared to the case of only one sensor system measuring the displacement in three dimensions. If both sides of the road are equipped with sensor systems, then it is even possible to estimate the position of the vehicle within a multilane road.
Mr.Green .- Recycling Hero of Zurich
Mr.Green is a recycling-service company, founded in April 2010, by students living in Zurich.
With their service they offer an easy, clever, environmentally friendly and sustainable way of recycling for private households. There are no more organisational headaches and logistical troubles with the items to be recycled in your own household. Our business can only exist through optimized route planning. It must be as economical and ecological as possible. We achieve this through a navigation system, which can produce the optimal route of each pick-up day. Having a route-tracking and route-reporting system it is easier for management to evaluate past or future costs and a smart way to make the use of energy (fuel) most effective and environmentally friendly.
The navigation system in use automatically sorts multiple destinations to provide an efficient route. With the additional software ‘ecoRoute’ - a green feature that calculates the most fuel-efficient route, tracks fuel usage and more. This saves us gas and money. We have plans to upgrade our SatNav system and move to a proprietary fleet management system. We will need to implement a software tool that is already in the planning in order to efficiently manage our operations.
