Foundation of the Aviation Research Center Switzerland


The association of four Swiss universities has the aim to position Switzerland as an importent location for aviation research. The first project deal with drones and wind turbines.

The Aviation Research Center Switzerland (ARCS) was founded by two Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich and Lausanne (MIR), the Center for Aviation at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) and the HSG-Center for Aviation Competence (CFAC).

The Research Center will carry out R&D projects and promote education and training opportunities in the field of aviation, and it will work closely with the Federal Office of Civil Aviation. Its objective is to position Switzerland as an important location for aviation research and development, according to a statement.

The Chairman is Hans Werder, the former General Secretary of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications.

The President of the integrated Innovation Council is André Schneider, CEO of Geneva Airport. This part of the ARCS has the aim to ensure the collaboration between industry and science.
